Researching Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Stroke, Hypertension, Diabetes... With the increasing frequency of obesity and diabetes, especially in Georgia, cardiovascular disease is reaching epidemic proportions.  The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University knows the demand is high for new and better treatments. Our internationally recognized team of research experts have one goal - to make breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of disease so that we all may live longer, healthier lives.

Job Summary

 

Investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of vascular remodeling and cardiovascular disease, with a focus on vascular smooth muscle cells and fibroblasts in aortic aneurysm and arteriovenous fistula remodeling. Research integrates human vascular specimens with genetically engineered mouse models and innovative approaches including single-cell/single-nucleus RNA-seq and ATAC-seq, CUT&Tag, spatial transcriptomics, lineage tracing, and advanced molecular and cellular biology to define disease-associated vascular cell states and underlying regulatory mechanisms.  Responsibilities include designing and performing rigorous experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, participating actively in scientific discussions, and communicating findings through presentations and manuscripts. Candidates are expected to present at national/international conferences and develop high-quality publications.

Responsibilities

 

The duties include but are not limited to:

RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS OF EXPERIMENTS: Conduct research and analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate qualitative and quantitative analysis. Teach and participate in complex macro- and microserological, histologic, and cell culture procedures.

PROJECTS: Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.

SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE: Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature. Summarize and evaluate findings. Develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Presents findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally and internationally.

PUBLICATIONS: Compose articles for publication in scientific journals. Review articles prepared by others.

ADVISING: Advise principal investigators, other postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research activities

EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE: Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment.

OTHER: Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

 

MD, PhD, or MD/PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

 

Experience in vascular biology and mouse models.

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
