Postdoctoral Research Associate
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative postdoctoral researcher with expertise in neurophysiology and/or neuromechanics, applied in the context of sensorimotor control and neuroengineering. Responsibilities will include one or more of the following:
• Leading research project(s) examining neural control of movement, using noninvasive and mildly invasive electrophysiology techniques alongside biomechanical methods (training provided for specialized procedures).
• Designing, assembling, and/or programming devices for novel experiments (e.g., actuators, sensors), and/or supporting student projects in device engineering.
• Interfacing with a diverse team of experts, including clinicians, specialized engineers, and neurosurgeons, to support collaborative and translational research efforts.
About the program: The Neuroengineering Program aims to build fundamental understanding of nervous system physiology while developing assistive technologies that improve quality of life for individuals with neurological disorders. The program integrates engineering principles with neuroscience to design and implement novel tools for neural recording, stimulation, and modulation, ultimately advancing both basic knowledge of nervous system function and translational applications addressing unmet clinical needs.
The postdoctoral researcher will receive multidisciplinary training and mentorship in professional and personal development, including preparing high-impact publications and conference presentations, developing translational neurotechnology, and mentoring junior trainees. The position includes a competitive salary and health insurance.
Location: The Neuroengineering Lab is based at the University of Oklahoma (OU), with lab space located on the south side of the OU-Norman campus, a hub for research and engineering facilities. We are part of the Stephenson School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME), which was founded with a historic $30 million gift in 2016 and now includes 18 core faculty and 20+ total graduate faculty.
Known as the City of Festivals, Norman is a culturally vibrant town in the Oklahoma City metro area, consistently ranked among the “Best Places to Live” for its schools, amenities, and low cost of living. Learn more at VisitNorman.com.

- A PhD in neuroscience, biomedical/electrical/mechanical engineering, kinesiology, or a related field is required.
Wanted
- Demonstrated experience in neurophysiology and/or neuromechanics research, strong communication skills
- Ability to work collegially within a diverse team of rehabilitation scientists/clinicians, engineers, experimentalists, and importantly trainees at varying experience levels
- Genuine interest in high-impact fundamental and/or translational science, as well as in the development or implementation of neural interfaces and neuromodulation devices
