South Dakota State University (SDSU) is offering an exciting career as a Database/Systems Engineer. The University System Administration department is seeking well-organized, self-motivated team players to join their team. This position will support the Office of Information Technology (OIT) mission of providing technology, skills and services to the University. OIT is committed to creating an environment in which faculty and students will have opportunities to succeed and advance their research and creative activities.

Job Responsibilities: This position will provide technical support in planning, designing, installing, maintaining, programming, testing, and implementing systems, integration, and/or database software, hardware, and products to ensure efficient integration and functioning of SDSU’s IT systems.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Windows Server Roles and Features, including but not limited to Active Directory, DHCP, IIS, RADIUS, Web Server
Working knowledge of Microsoft cloud offerings (Azure, M365)
Working knowledge of endpoint management tools (Microsoft Intune and SCCM, Jamf, etc.)
VMWare virtualization, server hardware (Cisco UCS, HPE and Dell), and storage technologies (NetApp, Hitachi, ExtremIO and Synology)
Experience with database and database management technologies, including Oracle and MSSQL
Linux OS familiarity

Skill & Ability to:
Demonstrate problem solving ability across an integrated, multi-server environment
Work independently and research/resolve technical issues and solutions

Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
Minimum of 3 years technical experience
Technical certifications in Microsoft or other industry certifications are highly desired

Work Hours
Core business hours are typically from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. However, this position may require the incumbent to work additional hours very early in the morning, evenings and/or weekends. These irregular work hours occur for many reasons such as required participation at meetings, work events and system maintenance/problem resolution. We also require participation in on-call rotation.
