The Ethnic Studies Program of Saint Mary's College of California is seeking a candidate with Ethnic Studies expertise to teach an undergraduate course titled, “Creating Community” in Spring 2023.

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:00-4:35 pm

The course is designed to prepare students to engage in informed and meaningful dialogue in situations where such understanding and listening are needed. The skills learned in this class will also enable us to engage in dialogues about a variety of issues in our families, among our friends, at our workplaces, and in our communities. One of the goals is to create a setting in which students engage in open and constructive dialogue, learnings, and exploration of intergroup relations, conflict and community building.

In addition to teaching, instructors in the Ethnic Studies program are expected to hold regular office hours (three hours a week) to provide students with support outside of the classroom. Course design must follow the program's common syllabus, meeting the requirements described. ES 50 is a community engagement course, and the instructor will need to regularly communicate and meet with pre-selected community partners for the course as well as supervise and manage student teams assigned to each
community partner.

This course will meet in person, on campus.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in ES, education or related field Required: doctorate Preferred.

Teaching experience in Ethnic Studies and discussion-based courses required.

A commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Experience teaching community engagement courses.
