College/Department Information
The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy is dedicated to understanding cellular function through state-of-the art research in areas such as autophagy and apoptosis, bone metabolism, developmental biology, molecular motors, dysphagia/swallowing disorders, exosome biology, renal disease, stem cell research, vision science (retina and cornea), and cell wounding. We are dedicated to conveying new knowledge to future scientists and educating the next generation of scientists, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals. Job Summary
Participate in project study, work with trainees and technicians in the laboratory; manage mouse colonies, including animal breeding, genotyping, and animal-related experiments, perform, plan and execute simple independent studies; participate in new research techniques and procedures; ensure compliance with rules and regulation and pertaining to use of biohazardous materials, oversee the use of materials and equipment in the laboratory.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:

Experiments: Perform a variety of genetic, genomic, and cell biological experiments to study the genetics factors involved in in Ocular Disease, maintain mouse lines for eye-related research.

Project Planning and Research Protocols: Participate in research activities and procedures of staff, graduate and summer students by participating and meeting with lab members. Participate in project planning and development of research protocols.

Mice: Maintain mouse lines for eye-related research, upkeep and maintain research protocols for human and mouse research.

Laboratory Preparation & Technical Assistance: Prepare reagents for lab and organize the research laboratory environment; assist with technical aspects of experiments being conducted by trainees in the laboratory.

Supplies & Equipment: Order supplies and equipment; maintain and trouble shoot equipment; maintain chemical and equipment inventories.

Literature: Perform literature searches, analyze research results, prepare results for presentation at local, national and international meetings and for publications.

Other: Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Eye-related research
Some previous experience with social/behavioral science (public health) research is desirable

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Grade: R9

Salary: $15.00/hour

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
