Position Description
The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in any and all administrative tasks and to support the daily running of a laboratory of 25+ researchers. The responsibilities of this position are highly variable depending on the needs of the PI and lab, but will include: the timely submission of Grants and Progress Reports; the timely submission of manuscripts to scientific journals; maintenance of the PI's Animal Protocols; coordination of the PI's extensive travel/ meeting commitments and reimbursements; assistance in the drafting of out-going correspondence (e.g. letters of recommendation, etc); serving as principal administrative liaison with other Harvard departments; maintenance of the PI's website and curriculum vitae (CV) as well as other Harvard Faculty and NIH-driven biographical and administrative data; coordinating meetings and lab functions; attending weekly Lab Meetings and maintaining the Lab Meeting schedule; the indoctrination of newly arrived Lab Members (accommodations, training, etc); coordinating travel arrangements and reimbursements for Lab Members; and assisting in the timely submission of Fellow and Graduate Student Fellowships.
 
Basic Qualifications
Three or more years of related experience. Education beyond high school may count toward experience.
 
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience with the submission of NIH grants and scientific manuscripts preferred; candidates should have a strong command of spoken and Written English; editorial skills are a preferred asset.
  • Candidates should be well organized and detail-oriented with strong interpersonal skills and a general interest in working with different people of diverse backgrounds.
  • On occasion, the administrative assistant handles information of a confidential nature and careful discretion is a must.
