Job Description

Grand Valley State University’s Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) is seeking an affiliate faculty member, effective August 6, 2026, with experience in food and beverage operations. This is a 9-month affiliate academic appointment, subject to funding approval.

Primary Duties:

  • Teaching and mentoring undergraduate students both online and on campus.

  • Teach a baseline of 12 credits per semester including a cooking class in the culinary lab.

  • Fulfilling service responsibilities within the HTM department.

  • Establishing professional relationships with companies and organizations in the hospitality industry.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in hospitality or related field.

  • Demonstrated expertise in food and beverage, including cooking instruction.

  • Evidence of effective and innovative college-level teaching.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Student-centered focus and values quality teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.

  • Variety of experiences in the hospitality industry (minimum 5 years).

  • ServSafe (or similar) certification.

Working Conditions:

  • Must have the physical stamina to teach courses ranging in time from 75 minutes to 3 hours.

  • Able to grocery shop, deliver food to the kitchen lab and teach in a kitchen lab setting for the duration of the course.

Salary & Benefits:$56,000-$57,500; commensurate with experience.
