Associate Vice Chancellor of Colleges, Housing, and Educational Services

University of California, Santa Cruz (UC Santa Cruz) seeks a dynamic, student-centered, and innovative leader to serve as its next associate vice chancellor of colleges, housing, and educational services (AVC CHES). This is an on-site and in-person role; the anticipated start date is June 2024.

UC Santa Cruz is a student-centered, high-impact research university and a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the prestigious, ten-campus University of California system. UC Santa Cruz, founded in 1965 and located about 70 miles from San Francisco, is distinguished by its residential college system through which undergraduate students live and learn in small communities organized around themes of broad intellectual interest. The university is classified as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI), enrolling over 19,000 students across 73 majors and 66 graduate programs.

The Position

Reporting to the vice chancellor of student affairs and success, the associate vice chancellor of colleges, housing, and educational services leads a department that creates, implements, and maintains a comprehensive array of living-learning programs and support services that enhance the UC Santa Cruz educational mission.

The AVC CHES provides strategic leadership in the design, development, implementation, coordination, assessment, and continuous improvement of residential and dining-related programs and services for students. They will create and maintain a healthy, inclusive, and responsive campus environment for approximately 9,500 residential students.

The next AVC CHES will supervise seven direct reports: a chief of staff; executive assistant; the executive directors of dining services, college student life, and housing services; and the directors of capital planning and human resources. They indirectly manage a larger team of 500 full-time employees (including unionized and non-unionized staff) and approximately 1,000 student employees. The AVC CHES oversees a multi-funded annual budget of $112 million.

Qualifications

A master's degree and/or equivalent work experience, and at least seven years of progressive experience at a college or university are required. The successful candidate will have direct experience in administration related to the resource management of student housing, dining, and/or auxiliary services.

The next associate vice chancellor must have a proven track record of successful transformational leadership that demonstrates knowledge of and experience with best practices in leadership, auxiliary management, equity, retention, and student success in a student residential setting. A doctorate and experience managing large-scale capital projects and facility operations are preferred.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $250,000-$280,000 annually.
