The Position

Reporting to the executive director of the Office of Career Development & Professional Engagement, the director develops programs and services to enhance career access and engagement through deep collaboration with a high-performing team to coordinate efforts to support W&M students. An important member of the Office of Career Development & Professional Engagement team, which is housed in the Office of University Advancement, the director focuses on designing and implementing strategies to advance the career development of graduate students in Arts & Sciences, School of Marine Science, and the School of Education and undergraduates who align to one or more affinity populations (e.g., first-generation, limited-income, underrepresented and marginalized groups, and veterans.) The director will collaborate with faculty, staff, and student leaders across the college (e.g., https://www.wm.edu/academics/departmentsandschools/, the https://www.wm.edu/offices/osve/, https://www.wm.edu/offices/deanofstudents/services/studentdiversity/, https://www.wm.edu/offices/step/, and the https://www.wm.edu/offices/revescenter/) to support students' career development, engage the community in impactful programs, and enable access to resources and high-impact experiences.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess an advanced degree and a progressive record of professional experience in career services, student success, employer relations, or talent acquisition and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the aptitude to implement effective strategies for populations benefitting from augmented support to access and use career opportunities and resources (e.g., first-generation, limited-income, underrepresented and marginalized groups, and veterans). Additional requirements include a solid understanding of employer engagement and recruitment practices; strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated relationship management and collaboration abilities; experience with career management platforms; understanding of the contemporary job market, recruitment strategies, and employment trends; experience with project and event management.

The hiring range is $70,000 to $80,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
