Summary

Dr. Maya Balakrishnan is a clinical researcher in the Section of Gastroenterology & Hepatology in the Department of Medicine. She is looking to hire a qualified and motivated person for a full-time research position who is genuinely interested in clinical research addressing liver disease among under-served patient populations with liver disease.

 

This position will require you to work occasional evenings and weekends to accommodate the patients' schedule.  The standard working hours for this position are typically from 8 AM to 5 PM, with a 1-hour lunch break. However, we prefer candidates who are available to occasionally work evenings and weekends as needed to support protocol requirements. This position is 100% on-site.  

Job Duties

  • Assist with producing patient information documents in Spanish and English. 
  • Recruits and enrolls patients into studies; manages data collection, entry, and storage; manages IRB submissions.
  • Provides additional research support for ongoing projects, including organizing project files, scheduling project activities and meetings, taking meeting minutes, and coordinating with co-investigators, collaborators, and project personnel across multiple sites to move projects forward. Maintains project databases, including tracking and reporting on project components to ensure timelines are adhered to and are deadlines met.
  • Maintains manuals of procedures for projects and assist with project protocol development and management.
  • Conducts comprehensive literature searches related to ongoing projects.
  • Assists with other activities related to qualitative and quantitative research data coordination and management, for example, contributing to instrument development and refinement, executing data collection, data cleaning and quality control oversight.
  • Assists with document preparation and references for publications and new project proposals.
  • Conducts interviews, focus group discussions, transcribe interviews, takes notes, code data.
  • Adapt a weight loss intervention using information derived from qualitative research.
  • Lead weight loss intervention sessions as part of a research trial.
  • Contributes to presentation preparation, such as pulling data and drafting slides.
  • Attends project meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. 
  • Experience in qualitative research or health promotion related research.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative methodologies and data analysis software programs (e.g., Atlas.ti, SPSS, STATA).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Strong interest in health equity and/or health behaviors. 
  • Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.
  • Team oriented, collaborative mindset with an interest in creating value in any situation with insightful questions and suggestions.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues. 
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
