NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs: If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs. If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date. What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a Government Relations Officer to join our Team. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Facilitate meetings between senior laboratory leadership, strategic management unit team members, and key elected and appointed officials, including members of Congress and congressional committees. + Assist in the preparation of supporting testimony for committee hearings, as necessary. + Host elected officials and their staff at Sandia facilities and events. + Communicate Sandia's science and engineering mission, strategic and tactical plans, and technical capabilities to federal, state, and tribal officials, staff, and official visitors. + Closely monitor developments within federal, state, or tribal governments that may affect Sandia programs and interests, and communicate developments and analysis to Sandia leadership. + Counsel and assist employees and management on federal legislation, U.S. Department of Energy contract compliance, and Sandia National Laboratories' policies or procedures to ensure compliance. + Participate extensively in planning and developing technical initiatives and policies that use Sandia's science and engineering capabilities to meet national needs. + Guide Sandia staff and interpret policies regarding interactions with federal, state, or tribal officials, and with official visitors. + Provide communications support during a crisis, particularly with appropriate state, federal, and tribal government authorities. + Work with other U.S. Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration facility representatives to manage cross-laboratory issues. Regular travel to Washington DC and Livermore, CA, and other locations will be required. Onsite work: Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: + Requires bachelor's degree in relevant discipline plus (12) or more years of experience; or master's degree in relevant discipline plus (8) or more years experience; or doctorate in relevant discipline plus (4) or more years experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Energy Q-level security clearance and a SCI security clearance, which may require polygraph testing. + (3) or more years experience working with or within Congress, either as staff for a House or Senate Committee, Senator, or Representative; or for an organization with frequent interaction with elected officials and legislative offices. Qualifications We Desire: + (3) or more years' experience as a Professional Staff Member, Legislative Assistant, or Legislative Liason working directly for/with a Senator or Representative or a Senate or House Committee on a daily basis + Experience working with and/or for the Department of Energy or the Department of Homeland Security and the Congressional committees that oversee them + Knowledge of US energy policy, energy research and technology and/or homeland security policy and issues + Experience working with State of New Mexico’s legislature and/or executive branch departments + Experience working with a distributed team across multiple time zones + Strong interpersonal skills and possess excellent judgment, tact, and self-confidence for use in dealing with elected officials + Exhibit a genuine interest in government and policy matters + Extensive knowledge and experience relating to Congress, congressional processes, and policies and programs and state government legislatures and agencies + Strong emphasis will be placed on demonstrated ability to work as part of a tightly knit, self-directed team + Excellent communication skills, including the ability to quickly compose concise and clear communications products + Master's degree in a related field About Our Team: The Government Relations Department owns the interactions with officials of the federal, state, and tribal/pueblo governments. It also bears accountability for facilitating appropriate contacts between Sandia and governmental officials and employees, and for ensuring that Sandia complies with applicable statutes and regulations governing such interactions.
