The Katherine Reese Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences' Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy at Augusta University, responding to enrollment growth in recent years, is seeking applicants for multiple Lecturers in History. The selected candidates will be expected to teach introductory United States History courses. These are non-tenure eligible faculty positions (9-month contract) with duties anticipated to begin in August 2024. Candidates will have a strong commitment to teaching general education classes. Qualifications to teach Geography will be considered a plus, as will any specializations in early American History, Chinese History, or the History of Pre-Modern Medicine.

Responsibilities
  • Teach 8 in-person courses per year as assigned by the chair. These will include HIST 2111 (United States to 1877) and/or HIST 2112 (United States Since 1877) and possibly others such as Pre-Modern Civilization, Modern Civilization, Introduction to Geography, or upper-division courses as needed.
  • Teach onsite dual enrollment courses located at local high schools.
  • Participate in shared governance of department, college, and university as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Master's degree in History or related field, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in history.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • -Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • -Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • -Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • -Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • -Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in History or related field.
  • Experience in teaching in a college or a university setting.
  • Qualifications to teach Geography and/or specializations in subfields noted above.


Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.

Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
