Job Summary

Provide career/professional development guidance and support to students in our undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs, including recent graduates/alumni. Partner with employers, faculty, and campus services in facilitating career development programs, employment/applied learning experiences and other initiatives that support our students. Meet with academic department chairs and other student support areas to develop and implement goals/initiatives annually involving the career and professional development of students. Career Advisors in the office are aligned to specific majors and/or Colleges to engage and connect to the unique programmatic needs of the disciplines. However, majors/Colleges aligned per Career Advisor are subject to change as needs arise, requiring someone who can navigate support across all students and academic programs.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

EMPLOYER DEVELOPMENT & RELATIONS: Build partnerships between the university and external communities (business, the public sector, and not-for-profit entities) to facilitate employment opportunities and career services programs for students.

Performance Standards:
  • Expand and nurture employer relationships to benefit the office and academic disciplines served through outreach, site visits, mail/email campaigns, marketing, and facilitation of partnerships with employers and academic programs.
  • Work closely with employers regarding their hiring needs in designated majors or as determined by the office which includes the facilitation of job postings, internships/Co-op experiences, post graduate employment, student employment, part-time employment, employer follow up, marketing, etc.
  • Facilitate all on campus recruitment initiatives in designated majors or as requested by the office to include scheduling, marketing, and site coordination on event days.
  • Monitor and document the successful employment of students/graduates
  • Represent Career Services at various corporate and campus functions to gain exposure across the community, state, region.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT: Advises students and recent graduates individually and in groups about career and personal development to ensure a positive transition through college to their post-graduate career plans.

Performance Standards:
  • Identifies and addresses issues related to individual student development such as motivation, career indecision, self-efficacy and decision making that impact success.
  • Educates constituents about the tools, resources, and services available to assist in their career planning and goal attainment.
  • Generate marketing materials to help promote Career Services programs/resources to students and to promote services to defined academic areas.
  • Assist other departments with special programs to assist in retention of students, promote career planning awareness/resources and support the promotion of career services offerings.
  • Develop campus and office based programs and partnerships that promote and integrate career readiness skill development with student learning.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT & EXECUTION: Collaborates with academic programs, student support areas to align and customize resources for students by identifying competencies and areas to develop in relation to the intersection of the student's education and career goals in specific professions.

Performance Standards:
  • Career/Major Specific Program Development/Support: Develops services, programming, workshops and events that support the tailored professional development and preparation needs of students, including specific academic disciplines assigned.
  • Department Program Development/Support: Manage and assist with career development programs for students, campus, and employers (e.g. Career Exploration Programs, job fairs, etiquette dinners, grad. school planning, etc.) Serve as lead for at least department wide program annually.
  • Marketing: Plan, develop, and execute marketing efforts for designated programs and services to facilitate optimal outreach (development/dissemination of flyers, newsletters, career development content, promotion of office events via social media, Campus Calendar, and other technology resources.
  • Resource Development: Research, plan, develop and implement innovative programming and resources to complement academic and student services as market trends and client needs change.
  • Faculty Development: Coordinate college specific outreach, programming, and customized seminars, workshops, and programs based on student needs assessment and faculty requests. Work with and advise faculty and college administrators on methods to enhance the quality of experiential learning/career development opportunities. Seek to nurture and expand departmental participation in what we do.

REPORTING, DOCUMENTATION, & TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT:

Performance Standards:
  • Document student appointment notes and follow up efforts (email, phone, drop in, etc.) with students and keep them updated weekly
  • Employment Data Collection/Dissemination: Collect and report employment data monthly (internships, career employment, student employment, etc.). Collaborate with Director who has oversight responsibility for comprehensive data collection.
  • Reporting: Generate/calculate Career Services monthly reports on student appointments, services, on campus recruitment, programming initiatives and other areas designated by Director to assist with benchmarking office services continuously
  • Technology: Maintain an expert status on all aspects of technology in career exploration & job search resources to assist students and employers (licensed career services software, web sites, technology in the job search, etc.) Maintain all databases and student files pertinent to the management of office documentation for monthly, semester and annual reporting purposes.
  • Maintain quality control measures through the Career Services employment system daily by: monitoring new user updates and resumes loaded for accuracy; reviewing new jobs posted for employer follow up; pulling reports as needed to benchmark data; assisting managers with projects related to the system.
  • Utilize Banner, PeopleSoft, Institutional Research reports and other campus information resources to generate relevant data for verifications, reporting, etc.

OTHER DUTIES: Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university required preferably in Counseling/Higher Education Administration/Human Resources or related area.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer work experience in higher education, counseling or in an employment services arena.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of career counseling and student development theories and practices to help students achieve success.

SKILLS

Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Augusta University.

Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive an Augusta University vehicle.
