The Ball State University College of Fine Arts invites applications for a Professional position as the Coordinator of Collaborative Accompaniment in Music and Musical Theatre
beginning August 2024.

The successful candidate will provide the School of Music and the Department of Theatre and Dance with proficient and versatile accompanist support and will have skills to play an open score in various voice combinations, as well as orchestral reductions. Candidate will also be able to effectively play musical theatre repertoire, be a proficient sight reader, serve as an artist within the Theatre and Dance production season, and understand how to accompany and partner with BFA musical theatre performance majors.

This role is paramount for the continued success of the ensemble programs in the School of Music, and for various activities such as masterclasses, auditions, showcases, cabaret classes, and productions in Theatre and Dance. The ideal candidate should foster practices that align with the mission and strategic plans of the university, college, and departments. Applicants should also be committed to inclusive pedagogies in their artistry.

This shared position will be a collaborative bridge builder between Music and Theatre/Dance. This includes in the areas of pedagogy, curriculum, governance, and culture building.

Minimum Education:

Master’s degree in collaborative piano, voice, musical theatre or related discipline completed by date of employment or equivalent professional experience.

Minimum Experience:

N/A.

Preferred Experience:

Experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
At least one year of full-time employment as a collaborative pianist.
Professional connections within the opera, choral, and/or musical theatre disciplines

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • For the School of Music, provide accompaniment for choral, opera, and performances.
  • For the Department of Theatre and Dance, accompany and team-teach courses in all levels of Singing Actor and Audition based courses.
  • Serve as an accompanist for Voice Master Classes and Cabaret courses.
  • Serve as an artist within the Theatre and Dance production season when opportunities exist.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
