Minimum Education:

Bachelor degree from an accredited institution by date of employment.

Preferred Education:

Master's degree from accredited institution.

Minimum Experience:

Experience in program management, such as federal financial aid programs, public assistance, or student support services.

Preferred Experience:

Two or more years of experience providing program support for students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and organize all work for Veterans Affairs as part of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
  • Create a culture of trust and connectedness across the campus community to promote well-being and success for veterans; develop programs to create a positive educational environment for veteran students.
  • Ensure consistent and sustained support from campus leadership.
  • Work with campus community to coordinate early alert system to ensure all veterans receive academic, career, and financial advising before challenges become overwhelming. Work with campus community to develop programs to provide academic and career counseling specifically designed for veteran students.
  • Coordinate campus services including admissions, registration, financial aid and counseling programs for veteran students; coordinate activities, seminars, and programs for Student Veteran Organization (SVO); work with Career Center and academic departments to develop programs to assist a veteran student locate employment and develop internship programs designed specifically for veteran students.
  • Collaborate with local community organizations and government agencies to align and coordinate services for veterans; coordinate with the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the adjutant general to educate veteran and National Guard students about available benefits and programs.
  • Design and utilize a uniform set of data to be collected and tracked on veterans, including demographics, retention and degree completion.
  • Provide comprehensive professional development for faculty and staff on issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder, veteran benefits and other issues related to the special needs of veteran students.
  • Maintain internet web site to provide veteran students access to veteran resources.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Advise students regarding VA programs and benefits; serve as referral for other needed student services on campus.
  • Manage all veteran education benefits including maintain compliance with all programs; serve as the School Certifying Officer; process federal Tuition Assistance certifying benefits; monitor enrollment, withdrawals and changes in student's statuses; work with Bursar's office regarding fund account balances; consult with DVA regional offices to resolve issues related to veteran's educational benefits.
