Summary

Our brain tumor research laboratory is currently seeking an outstanding Research Assistant I to join our group focused on mechanisms regulating stem and progenitor cell function in the pediatric brain tumor, medulloblastoma. We are looking for an energetic, curious and highly organized candidate who will help manage the day-to-day activities of the lab, train new students, run experiments and maintain equipment. 
 

Job Duties

• Designs and conducts research experiments.
• Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
• Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
• Documents and interprets results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
• Selects and determines appropriate research procedures.
• Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment, including arranging service calls as necessary.
• Prepares and puts in place equipment for scheduled use.
• May assign activities to less experienced research staff.
• Prepares solutions for use.
• Integrate results from cell culture and molecular experiments to further generate hypotheses that will be tested functionally using a variety of assays both in vitro and in vivo. 
• Optimize protocols for the lab and implement new technologies for specific research projects.
• Assist PhD students and PDFs on other large scale projects. 
• Train PhD students and PDFs on how to use equipment. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
• Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
• Prior experience with stem cell biology (i.e. cell culture, in vivo transplantation assays).
• Experience with large-scale genomic data is highly desirable .
• Must be self-motivated, well-organized, highly independent, and willing to train new students.
• Excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills are mandatory.
