Summary
Administrator of the BGSU retirement program to include state retirement plans (STRS, OPERS, and the Alternative Retirement Plan) and multiple voluntary retirement savings plans. Ensures the program meets not only federal, state, and local requirements, but also the needs of the University and its employees. Serves as the subject matter expert and monitors all plans and vendors, ensuring BGSU maintains full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, or guidance.
Essential Functions
• Process, monitor, and oversee the end-to-end data integration lifecycle between BGSU systems and third-party vendor platforms. This includes monitoring and maintaining secure, efficient data exchange processes.
• Develops and manages internal and vendor audits. Audits retirement plan contributions on a per-pay basis to ensure accuracy. Works in conjunction with payroll to request and document any corrections or reversals to include any refunds or missed earning calculations as necessary.
• Serve as the primary point of contact to resolve participant and vendor issues promptly and effectively as they arise.
• Monitors annual compliance limits for each plan on a per pay basis. Regularly reviews and tracks employee and employer contributions.
• Administers the BGSU 415m to include enrolling and monitoring the transition of Alternative Retirement Plan members to the 415m as necessary. Notifies recordkeeper of terminations of plan participants timely.
• Processes all new full-time (& part-time) staff eligibility and Certification of Final Payroll dates within the OPERS and STRS systems in addition to processing all Alternative Retirement Plan elections by entering data into multiple systems.
• Reviews and approves retirement distributions and rollovers as well as severance and DOPO's as needed.
• Maintains and updates the HR Retirement webpage data and communication materials.
• Fosters positive working relationships with the vendors. Works with vendors directly regarding data validation, error resolutions, troubleshooting.
• Manages retirement administration activities and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local government regulations. Prepares and submits required reports and filings accurately within required deadlines.
• Stays current with evolving regulatory changes and industry best practices to proactively assess compliance risks and recommend necessary adjustments.
• Documents and maintains up-to-date procedures for the Retirement Administration within HR. Collaborates with HR team members, IT, and retirement vendors to validate procedures and ensure alignment across all stakeholders.
• Attends all meetings of the Advisory Retirement Plan Committee as a non-voting participant.
• Assists with and works in tandem with the benefits team and assists with backup during times of high volume or vacation coverage.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
The following Degree is required:
• Bachelor's Degree. Degree is conferred at time of application.
The following Experience is required:
• 3 years of retirement plan administration experience
