Job Overview
The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for multiple full-time tenure-track faculty positions in the Mechanical Engineering Program. A broad and diverse spectrum of candidates is sought; women, members of underrepresented groups, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Candidates in four broad areas in mechanical engineering will be considered: (1) Mechanics - including, but not limited to, computational mechanics, theoretical and applied mechanics, modeling of materials behaviors such as fracture, fatigue, and plasticity, biomechanics, mechanics of soft systems, and machine learning and other data-driven approaches. (2) Vibrations and Acoustics - including, but not limited to vibration control, metamaterials and metasurfaces, nonlinear dynamics, vibrations of rotating structures, MEMS/NEMS, vibration-based health monitoring, vibro-acoustics, biomedical acoustics and wearable ultrasound, thermos-acoustics, acoustic sensing, aeroacoustics, and advanced noise control technologies. (3) Manufacturing - including, but not limited to, digital manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing, additive manufacturing, electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, biomanufacturing, and energy technology manufacturing. (4) Energy – including, but not limited to, thermal-fluids science, energy conversion and storage, battery materials and processes, carbon capture, hydrogen technology, and fuel cells.
Essential Functions
Teach graduate and undergraduate engineering courses specific to their specialty areas (as noted above).
Develop externally funded research programs in their specialty areas.
Advise graduate and undergraduate students.
Conduct research in their specialty areas and publish research results in professional journals.
Participate in professional service activities such as editorial/peer review, student career mentoring, advising of student organizations, serving on departmental, college and university committees, and performing outreach activities such as recruiting underrepresented students and holding workshops and seminars for industry.
Participate in curriculum and course development.
Minimum Requirements
Prior to the effective date of appointment, a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
